Jean-Pierre Jeunet is one of those filmmakers that have a unique style you recognize immediately. His characters are mostly common people, yet they’re quirky and whimsical and special. The line between the protagonist and additional characters is blurred for the most part. You could see all of that work in “The City of lost Children” and “Amelie”. And it works again!
Bazil accidentally gets shot in the head and the bullet can’t be removed because it could damage his brain so it’s left in where it can kill him anytime in the future. His father lost his life when trying to disarm a landmine. Losing everything he had due to the accident he gets adopted by a strange family who lives in a mountain of trash. Together they plan to teach the weapon manufacturers who ruined his life a lesson…
The story of the latest Jeunet movie is actually quite literal and straight-forward with a serious issue at its core which is a little different than his earlier films. Yet all the traits mentioned before are still there and it’s dead funny in its own very unique way. You can’t find movies like that anywhere else in the world but in France. Loved it!
